Over 100 women attend Skin Care Event at Sharjah Ladies Club
November 26, 2006
The main aim of the event was to raise awareness on the different
types of skin conditions with particular emphasis on psoriasis.
The main presentation at the Skin Care Event was provided by Dr.
Aysha Al Qatami, Head of Dermatology Department, Obaid Alah Hospital,
Ras Al Khaima, and discussed the various burdens of psoriasis on
the quality of life of most sufferers. 'Psoriasis is a lifelong
struggle for most sufferers, raising awareness through educational
initiatives, such as tonight's event, is the only way to ensure
that the people suffering from this chronic disease are receiving
the information and support they truly deserve to improve their
overall quality of life.'
Psoriasis is a long-lasting skin disease that affects both men
and women and is visible on the skin in the form of red itchy scales.
Psoriasis usually appears on the elbows and knees of the patient,
but sometimes may affect the lower back, face and the feet.
'The Sharjah Ladies Club is consistently proactive and enthusiastic
in organizing or joining in many awareness campaigns,' says Amani
Ibrahim, Marketing & Events Coordinator, Sharjah Ladies Club,
'but we feel that psoriasis is a special case at the moment since
it has such a strong impact on the moral of sufferers, hopefully
we will be able to raise awareness on this horrible disease here
in Sharjah'
Currently, there is approximately 3 percent of the population living
with psoriasis in the UAE. The severity of the disease is determined
by the percentage of total body surface area that is affected. The
majority of cases affect less than 2 percent of the body surface,
but in severe cases the percentage can be greater than 10 percent.
L'Oreal Paris was also present at the event, providing an interactive
make-up workshop for the attendees. The L'Oreal Paris Make-up workshop
was held to show women how to enter the glamorous world of L'Oreal
Paris by applying and making the most of their regular day-to-day
make-up.
